Enrolment

We will invite families to an interview to discuss expectations prior to a  possible admission to Lolland International School. Contact the school, internationalskole@lolland.dk, to register your interest and request your pre-enrolment interview. 

According to the Act on Municipal International Schools (the KIG Act), the majority of Lolland International School's places must be filled by families that are in Denmark for the purpose of work. The remaining places are offered to families already living in Lolland Municipality and surrounding municipalities.

We are looking for students that come from 'internationally-minded' homes, for example mixed families, where one of the languages in the home is English, or families returning to Denmark where the children have attended international school abroad.

Lolland International School is a free public school. However, the before and after school programme and summer holiday programme are user pays.

No, according to the KIG law the school is open to everyone regardless of language skills. However, it will be be challenges without some English and Danish skills. We recommend talking to the school about language abilities so we can create agood plan for preparation.

Yes. However, according to the KIG law, the majority of places are to be taken by international families that are in demark for the purose of work. The remaining places may be offered to families that already live in Lolland Municipailty and the surrounding region.

Daily routines

Lolland International School does not have a dedicated bus. Transport options are either public transport of Flex Trafik (if applicable). 

Children can receive a free travel card if they live over a certain distance from the school. 0.-3. Grade greater than 2.5 kilometers. 4.-6. Grade over 6 kilometers. 7.-9. Grade over 7 kilometers. Contact the school for assistance.

We handle the large age range in the form of staggered breaks / bell times and dedicated zones for the smaller students. There will always be supervision on the school grounds.

There is no school parking lot.There is a kiss-and-go area outside the school for drop off.

There is on street parking and some public parking spaces a short walk from the school.

We share the campus with Maribo School - Borgerskolen and Maribo Gymnasium and work together to make the outdoor areas green and attractive for students of all ages.

Classes start at 8:10 and finish at different times depending on the day and age group. 

No. There are no school uniforms but children are asked to wear appropriate clothing suitable for the activities they participate in.

Yes. We have a simple school canteen offering with payment. However, the majority of children bring a healthy packed lunch to school.

Similar to other Danish public schools, the digital platform AULA is the preferred communication channel at Lolland International School. Assistance in sign-up and usage is offered, as needed.

As we are a small school, no specific afternoon activities take place on site. However, we recommend the following local after school programmes.

Grade 0- Grade 3: This after school prorgramme is named 'SFO' offered by Blæsenborg SFO 'Søtrolden'. This programme is payment based.

Grade 4- Grade 6: ‘Junior Klub’ offers an exciting after school option specifically for this age group.

Grade 7- Grade 9: This programme known as ‘Ungdomskole’ runs in the evenings Monday- Wednesday for children aged 13- 18. There are also many courses and trips on offer throughout the year.

Curriculum

Yes. LIS is certified by the world renowned Cambridge Assessment International Education.

Yes. In accordance with the KIG law, all students will take the Danish compulsory school exam known as FP9 afgangsprøve.

We are a small school, so to ensure that children have a sound social and learning environment we put students together across year groups. For example, 2nd and 3rd grade students in the same class. Like in any class, students are all at different levels. Our teachers will differentiate the teaching, where the teacher has an eye for all students' academic and social level as well as language skills.

Our school follows a bilingual dual immersion model. That means that half the teaching is in English and the other half in Danish. Therefore, English, mathematics, science and global perspectives are taught in English, while Danish, art , music, PE, home economics, wood work etc are taught in Danish.

Yes. After completing school with us students can apply to Danish gymnasiums, trade and business schools. Students can also apply to the pre-IB programms if they wish to continue their education in English. 

We will use  use a variety of facilities such as the small halls on the campus, the large local sports center and swimming pool. It is customary for students to shower after physical activity.

Religion is the study of all religions. Students may not opt-out of this subject.

Lolland International School in general

Yes, five parent representatives are part of the school board.

The other publiuc primary and lower secondary schools in the municipality are our sister schools with which we work closely. For example we cooperate and share some facilities and satff. In addition, we have our own school leadership and school board.

We cooperate with the municipal support services such as health nurse, dentist, social counsellors and more. Children will be called in to the dentist and health nurse for regular check ups.

Just like all public schools, we cooperate with the municipal support services depending on the need. Children with special needs will be supported. 

Yes. Just like all schools we offer youth education advice from specialists in the municipality. Children will be involved in work experience placement.

We connect with support services and create an individual plan for each child.

In cooperation with partner schools we will establish a plan for excursions and trips abroad.

Lolland International School is a free public school offering a bilingual education to international families and families with an international mindset.

With the development of the Femarn connection, more international citizens are coming to Lolland. There are already networks and activities targeted at international families.
